Cyprus

21 mars, 2017

There is something about the Mediterranean that has always attracted me. I don’t know if it’s the relaxed and non-stressful lifestyle, the light, the weather or the great food. Maybe it’s a combination of them all.

I have been to Greece quite a few times in my life and I love the country. The narrow streets, the friendly people and all the cats <3 We wanted to go somewhere in Europe this summer and we were talking about Greece, Spain, Croatia and Cyprus. After a lot of googling, Pinterest-ing and reading we decided to go to Cyprus. Why? The clear-blue water. And the fact that none of us had been there before.

In many ways, Cyprus reminds me of Greece. The white houses with blue doors, all the cats and the amazing sunsets. And the food is just as tasty as in Greece. I had some serious trouble finding out what was typical for Cyprus (that I couldn’t find in Greece) but I think it must be the clear water. It’s like you’ve travelled all over the globe and landed in Bali or the Maldives. It’s really amazing. Just look:

Whenever I’m traveling, I love to explore the new country I’m in. I love to wake up early, take a walk and photograph all the beautiful things I see. Everyone else is sleeping and I can explore the streets all by myself. Discover the things you don’t see when there are people everywhere.

The early morning walks by the sea were amazing. The fresh air filled me with so much energy and I met some amazing locals on my walks. One morning I met an old fisherman who asked me about photography and he told me about the early mornings he was used to. He enjoyed them, just like I do. We talked about the ocean, how peaceful it is and the amazing light. He told me about the birds he saw and used to feed when he was out fishing. It was such an amazing talk and I think I will never forget it. I do however regret not taking a photo of him. But since I always experience everything through my camera it’s beautiful to have this old man as a memory and not on a photo. He had no teeth but he had the biggest smile and he looked so kind.

As you can see, Cyprus has the bluest water you can imagine. We went to Cyprus to enjoy the beaches, the blue water, the sunny weather and the non-stressful lifestyle. Cyprus is quite popular among teenagers and students who want to party, but we wanted a more quiet and couple-friendly (hehe) place. So we decided to go to Protaras, Fig Tree Bay. It was just as great as we had imagined. There are of course a lot of things to see and discover, but we decided to stay in Protaras and explore the area on foot. One of the places we visited was the church up in the mountains. The view was amazing, and the church was beautiful too. Otherwise, I recommend to just relax and try to enjoy the lifestyle as much as you can. It’s a lovely country!
